By inserting a preformed film into the mold and then injection molding plastic behind the film, parts can be made with specialized surface properties. This process can include printed film to produce highly decorated parts or can include specialized barrier films to protect the plastic for difficult environments such as fuel or chemical exposure. ECP has worked with customers to develop and produce parts which benefitted from film insert molding technology.
